"Totally Legal": Trump Admits His Son Met Russian Lawyer In Election Year

President Trump doubled down on his stance, proffered a year ago, that pursuing damaging information on Hillary Clinton was the focus of a questionable 2016 meeting between his son Donald Trump Jr. and a lawyer with ties to the Kremlin.

On July 31, 2017, The Washington Post reported that the president "personally dictated a statement in which Trump Jr. said that he and the Russian lawyer had primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children" at the Trump Tower meeting.

On Monday, CNN's legal analyst and criminal defense attorney, Joey Jackson, explained that President Trump's latest reaction to new revelations of the Trump tower meeting shows that he has a "conscience of guilt". If, indeed, Mueller is attempting to build an obstruction case against the president using his tweets, talking off-the-cuff in this way is not helpful to Trump.

Schiff said he believes congressional investigators found evidence of conspiracy and collusion by the Trump campaign, including Trump Jr.'s meeting with the Russian attorney at Trump Tower.

Whether it's the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016, or private messages back and forth with Wikileaks, Don Jr.'s name continues to pop up in regards to the current Mueller probe. Then it was revealed in June that Trump's lawyers had admitted to Mueller in a letter sent last January that Trump had actually "dictated" the statement. Ahead of it, music promoter Rob Goldstone sent an email to Trump Jr. saying, "The Crown prosecutor of Russian Federation met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary (Clinton) and her dealings with Russian Federation and would be very useful to your father".

"In that tweet, he acknowledged his son went to a meeting with representatives of a country that has been an adversary of this country", Dingell said.

When news of the meeting first surfaced previous year, Trump Jr said in a statement that he and Veselnitskaya had mostly discussed a suspended programme for Americans to adopt Russian children., although he has since admitted that he knew he would be offered "dirt" on Clinton.

"I don't represent Don Jr., but I will tell you I have no knowledge at all of Don Jr. being told that he's a target of any investigation, and I have no knowledge of him being interviewed by the special counsel", Sekulow said Sunday.

"The question is: How would it be illegal?"

"The Fake News hates me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it's TRUE", Trump tweeted Sunday. "You have to look at what laws, rules, statutes were really broken here".

Trump's July 2017 comments came before we knew he was involved in drafting that initial misleading response; now Trump is in the public record as having authored it. They cited multiple unnamed sources. Sekulow said this past weekend that he had been acting on "bad information" at the time.

Later Sunday, Jay Sekulow, one of the president's lawyers, defended the 2016 meeting.

In another, he expressed frustration with both the media and Mueller's probe. They purposely cause great division & distrust.

He called the "Fake" media "very risky and sick". "They can also cause War!"
