Supergirl movie in the works by Warner Bros and DC

Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.

The launch of "Supergirl" comes eight months after Warner Bros. promoted Walter Hamada to oversee its comic book movies, a month after the studio made a decision to replace Jon Berg and Geoff Johns as the heads of the DC movies. The infamous film performed poorly at the box office and received blistering reviews. Henry Cavill, coming off a terrific turn opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible Fallout, has played the stoic Man of Steel in the movies so far.

That, however, is the part of this story where rumors take over, since the report goes into some loose talk about the purported goal of the new Supergirl movie. The next three films, Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984, certainly feel a little lighter than the previous fare. And expensive - Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman and Justice League carried around $800 million in production budgets to gross a collective $2.1 billion, according to reported budget estimates. And she'll be making her big debut in the DC film universe under the guidance of the writer of 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox. Warner and DC are adding more to their plate with a Supergirl film, totally reinforcing the DC Films image of trying to bite off more than they can chew. Not much is known about the still-early project, but it's likely this would be distinct from the Supergirl TV series about to enter its fourth season on the CW network. It has also been said WB was waiting to see if Fallout was going to be a success, which it is, to decide on resigning Cavill. However, this won't be the first time Supergirl has appeared on the silver screen.

In the comics, Supergirl was another Kryptonian and cousin to Kal-el, aka Superman.
