Paul Pogba staying amid Barcelona links

Barcelona are hoping to add Paul Pogba to their list of summer signings, but it is unlikely that Manchester United will allow the World Cup victor to go without a swap deal in place.

Pogba now draws an astounding figure of £290,000 weekly wages with the Red Devils after his then record-breaking move from Juventus in 2016, but would have to settle for a lesser salary if he joins Barcelona, reports Mundo Deportivo. The possible departures of Yerry Mina, Paco Alcácer, Rafinha and André Gomes could raise enough cash to fund a move for the French midfielder.

But a terrific World Cup campaign appeared to change everything, although now Barcelona has entered the fray and have clearly stated that the player must be ready to undergo a pay cut if he wants to join them.

Gianluca Di Marzio says United have knocked back the offer for Pogba, for whom they paid Juventus £89m in 2016.

Recently, Barcelona's manager, Ernesto Valverde, publicly acknowledged that Pogba is a quality player, and refused to rule out the possibility of signing him. "We respect the player and the club he is in".

Barcelona are keen to add yet another marquee signing to their midfield in a bid to see Pogba link up with Philippe Coutinho and Lionel Messi further forward. With that out of the way he's coming good though we all know he can do even better. He's the greatest thing to come out of Essex since Nick Frost.
