Maniac trailer: See Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in Netflix's new series

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming series, including its newly-released trailer, release date, cast and plot.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill made a cute teenage couple in 2007's coming-of-age comedy Superbad. The trailer also shows that something is not going as per plan and that could raise conflict in the series.

The black comedy series revolves around a group of people who enter into a unusual pharmaceutical trial for very different reasons. There's a shifty pharmaceutical drug trial, Justin Theroux as the wonderfully-named Dr. James K. Mantleray, and... this.

What do you think of this first trailer? He's such a wonderful director who can really elevate a series to greatness (see True Detective Season 1, which he directed, versus Season 2 which he did not).

Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux, and even Sally Field star in the series that already feels like a mix of "Black Mirror", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", maybe "Inception", and - thanks to some mind-games - "Lord of the Rings". As we see here, Jonah Hill and Emma Stone's experiences at freakish mental institution will send them on numerous journeys through multiples realities.

Annie's disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and her sister; Owen, the fifth son of wealthy NY industrialists, has struggled his whole life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Maniac airs on Netflix from 21 September.

They decide to participate in the trial based on the promise that the drug being tested can fix any malady of the mind, from mental illness to heartbreak.
