Five people were killed after a Cessna 414 plane fell from the skies onto a auto parked in front of an office supplies store in Santa Ana on Sunday afternoon.

The twin-engine Cessna plane crashed in Santa Ana, and had been bound to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, said Capt. Concialdi added that no one on the ground was hurt and there was no fire. Tony Bommarito, the public information officer with Orange County Fire Authority. Although a auto in the lot was damaged, authorities said Sunday evening there appeared to be no injuries on the ground. The plane struck at least one unoccupied vehicle, whose owner was elsewhere shopping at the time.

Five people have died after a light plane crashed into a carpark in Southern California. We looked up and we just saw a plane fall.

"I don't know anything about what this pilot did or what he was thinking, but it could have been much more tragic", Bommarito said.

The plane was registered to a San Francisco company and had flown from the East bay suburb of Concord, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records.

Photos from the scene show the plane upright but on its belly outside the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Santa Ana, where wreckage was seen in front of a Staples store. The cause of the incident will be investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
