Pursuit ends in hostage situation at LA grocery store

Police believe a man involved in an ongoing standoff with officers at a Los Angeles supermarket shot his grandmother and girlfriend before firing at officers during a pursuit, then crashing outside the supermarket and running inside the store.

Law enforcement sources told The Times that the gunman opened fire on officers and then ran inside the store.

The suspect fled in a 2015 Toyota Camry and during a police pursuit, the suspect fired multiple rounds at officers, Lopez said.

"We can confirm that there is an active barricaded suspect within a #TraderJoes in #Silverlake". Los Angeles police said the incident started with a shooting in the 1600 block of 32nd Street.

A woman inside the store was shot but able to get out, NBC Los Angeles reported, saying there may be dozens of people still inside the store in safe locations.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said a 20-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in fair condition with unspecified injuries.
