Thai boys lost weight but generally well after cave ordeal

The global bid to extract the team garnered attention from around the world after the team found themselves trapped on June 23 when they entered the cave after practice and were blocked by floodwaters.

In his letter when he was trapped, Ake apologised to the parents for taking the boys into the cave network, but several parents replied to say they did not blame him. "I want to see the face of my child and embrace him and ask him how he feels and how he's doing".

That left 20 or so divers scrambling to flee the rising waters, he said, explaining they narrowly made it out time.

Thai doctors have said they did not know what type of unusual illnesses the boys may have picked up in the cave.

The 12 boys and their coach lost an average of 2 kg (4.4 lb) during their 17-day ordeal but were generally in good condition and showed no signs of stress, a senior health official said on Wednesday.

They were taken by helicopter to a hospital about 70 kilometers (45 miles) away to join their teammates in quarantine.

"Don't need to worry about their physical health and even more so for their mental health", said Chaiwetch Thanapaisal, director of the hospital.

At the start of the seven-minute video, posted on Facebook just a day after the last of the 13 members of the group were successfully escorted out of the cave, two divers are seen adjusting their equipment while standing chest-deep in murky water. Doctors were anxious about potential infections the children could have contracted in the cave.

Thongchai Lertwilairatanapong, a public health inspector, left, speaks during a press conference at a hospital in Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand, Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

But Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Tuesday extra precautions would have be implemented both inside and outside the cave to safeguard tourists.

He said: 'The important thing is... personal space. "When I visited them, I also told them to be good citizens".

The Wild Boars players are now recovering at a hospital in Chiang Rai.

The boys were held close to divers and remained motionless for parts of the journey where they had to dive.

The rescue efforts cost the life of one rescue worker - a former Thai Navy Seal ran out of air inside the cave system.

Narongsak, giving details of the rescue, said falling oxygen levels inside the cave complex had added a sense of urgency.

But according to Los Angeles-based Ivanhoe Pictures, they have been officially picked by the Thai government and navy to develop the film.

"We are not heroes". Social media has been abuzz for days with chatter about the inevitable "Thailand Cave Rescue: The Movie". "For SEALs, this is what we were trained for".

Four boys rescued on Sunday can eat normal food and walk around, and the four pulled out on Monday are reportedly eating soft food.
