Redskins Pick Cornerback Adonis Alexander In 2018 Supplemental Draft

The Western Michigan prospect does not come with off-field concerns like other players that have come through the Supplemental Draft. He had considered entering the 2018 NFL Draft and garnered interest. He told that he has been working on his maturity and growing up over the past year. In all, Beal is one of the best supplemental draft prospects in the past few years.

Three other players were eligible for the supplemental draft but weren't selected.

At least two national experts don't expect the Lions to participate in the draft. The Giants took former Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal in Round 3 before Washington tapped Virginia Tech corner Adonis Alexander in the sixth round.

Giants rookies report to training camp July 22 and Beal will be behind, as he embarks on his National Football League career without any spring work with the team. Teams can place bids on players they like.

Teams then can make anonymous bids on players based on how high a draft pick they're willing to give up. Each team gets a chance to put in a bid or bids on players at the beginning of each round.

Things could be different this year, with three players projected as potential picks. Cleveland won Josh Gordon in the 2012 Supplemental Draft, and back in 1985 the Browns scored Bernie Kosar with a first-round pick in that year's edition.

However, Sam Beal has no negative reports about him coming into the supplemental draft. Kansas City might take Beal in the second round or hope Alexander falls to the fourth. He gives NY a strong third option behind Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple. The Browns traded away Jamar Taylor to the Arizona Cardinals for a late round pick and he didn't tackle.

The Player: Beal is another corner with good size and length, measuring at nearly 6-1 and 178 pounds with over a 72-inch wingspan.

Washington now has drafted five Virginia Tech defenders since 2015, including Alexander's Hokies teammates DT Tim Settle (Round 5) and CB Greg Stroman (Round 7), back in April.

Of course, there's off-the-field questions about both Alexander and Beal that have to be answered. He had 27 tackles, one sack, one interception and four pass breakups in eight games as a junior in 2017. The third group has all the teams that did make the playoffs.

According to NFL Network's Bucky Brooks, Alexander "smothers receivers at the line of scrimmage with his aggressive shadow technique, while also displaying good instincts and ball skills". The 6-foot-1 cornerback ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.5 range and had a 37-inch vertical leap.

There have been eight players who entered the league as first-round picks in the Supplemental Draft, majority quarterbacks and most during the 1980s. He made a decision to return to school, but at the start of spring practice he was suspended indefinitely, and later declared for the Supplemental Draft. Florida State's Tarvarus McFadden signed as an undrafted free agent.
