India Begin England Tour With A Fine Win In T20I Series

Virat Kohli and his troops will look to continue their T20I form into ODIs as India lock horns against England in the first of their three-matches in Nottingham on Thursday.

The three-match ODI series starts at Trent Bridge, with the second game taking place at Lords on Saturday.

In his column for the Times of India, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman wrote, "Team India came through another test of character with flying colours by clinching the T20 series against England with a convincing win in the decider". The Men-in-Blue and the English team have faced each other in an ODI series in India past year when the hosts were victorious by 2-1.

The possibility of a change at the top though is not the only matter of interest in upcoming matches since seven of the 10 teams playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be on view during this period until August 12.

Rahul scored a 70 against Ireland and followed it by an unbeaten 101 against England in the first T20. England have been one of the finest 50 over sides in recent times and India will have their task cut against a batting line-up comprising Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan. He will, in all likelihood, be the missing jigsaw puzzle at the top of the order for skipper Kohli.

Suresh Raina, who replaced an unfit Ambati Rayudu, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will once again provide depth to the batting order while all-rounder Hardik Pandya too has the ability to demolish any bowling attack.

Yuzvendra Chahal is a certainty as the wrist spinner and Kuldeep Yadav, who has created all sorts of doubts in the minds of the batsmen, may just comeback into the playing XI as the Trent Bridge ground is much bigger than the one at Bristol. Apart from the duo, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will share the new ball. Opener Buttler has continued his dream run since the start of IPL.

Similarly, third-ranked South Africa face the challenge of blanking Sri Lanka 5-0 in an away series to ensure they do not slip behind New Zealand even as mid-table sides Bangladesh (seventh), Sri Lanka (eighth) and the West Indies (ninth) will be vying for important points during this period. Kuldeep has claimed 20 wickets in his last eight ODIs while Chahal scalped 24 wickets in his last ten outings. The home team has a penchant for high scores. Last time England played at Nottingham, they scored a staggering 481 for the world record.
