Cristiano Ronaldo pens farewell letter to Real Madrid fans

Real Madrid announced the move Tuesday.

Ronaldo won two La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns with Real after joining from Manchester United in 2009 for a then world-record fee of £80 million.

Real Madrid is the reigning Champions League victor, while Ronaldo is the reigning Ballon d'Or victor.

"These years at Real Madrid, and in this city of Madrid, were possibly the happiest of my life", he said.

"I can only give enormous thanks to this club, these fans and this city". I can only thank all of them for the affection I have received.

"I think that the moment has arrived to start a new chapter in my life and therefore I have asked the club to accept letting me leave". He will reportedly sign a four-year contract that will see him earn £500k per week at the Italian club.

Real Madrid released a statement regarding his switch, which also contained a classy farewell message from Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is now on vacation in Greece following Portugal's elimination from the World Cup.

Two years later Ronaldo enjoyed an especially memorable summer as Madrid won another UEFA Champions League crown - again at the expense of Atlético - on penalties, the main man converting the winning spot kick in the shoot-out. It's hard to imagine him playing with another team, since Ronaldo has pretty much become synonymous with Real Madrid.

Evra, 37, believes there is something special about Juventus that helps to prolong the careers of ageing players and said they would make sure Ronaldo will be at the next World Cup in 2022.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli flew to Greece to meet Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes to put the final touches to the deal yesterday.

Neymar, Neymar, Neymar. The Brazilian superstar could go to Real Madrid and do what he initially set out to do when he left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain: Step out of Messi's shadows and establish himself as the top player in the world.

Additionally, the 33-year-old racked up an incredible scoring record with Real, setting in stone a tally of 451 goals in 438 games. In total, he won 16 titles, including four Champions Leagues, three of which came in consecutive seasons and four in the last five years.

I have thought a lot and I know that the moment has come for a new cycle. "The shirt, the club badge and the Santiago Bernabeu will always feel like mine".
