Mom is only survivor of vehicle crash that killed husband, 4 daughters

A deadly crash Friday in DE killed a New Jersey family of one adult and four children, police said.

Audie Trinidad, 61, and their daughters - Kaitlyn, 20, Danna, 17, and 13-year-old twins Allison and Melissa -were killed on a DE highway in their minivan when a pickup truck going the opposite direction crossed over the median and slammed into their vehicle, ABC News 7 reported.

Mary Rose Trinidad, her husband, Audie Trinidad, 61 and their daughters - Kaitlyn, 20, Danna, 17, and 13-year-old twins Allison and Melissa - were driving home to Teaneck on a DE highway when a vehicle struck their minivan.

Mary Rose Trinidad, 53, was admitted to hospital with serious injuries and is now in stable condition and alert.

Authorities said the driver of the truck, a 44-year-old man from Hurlock, Maryland, Alvin Hubbard Jr, and his passenger were hospitalized and released.

The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Brian Kern from Bethlehem, Pa., was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. His wife was transported to a local area hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries.

With the family about two hours from their home in Teaneck, New Jersey, a heavy-duty pickup on the other side of Highway 1 crossed the grassy median in Townsend, Delaware, according to Delaware State Police. He opened the auto door and jumped out, said the report.

"They're all gone in the blink of an eye", he said. Melissa Jaffe said police didn't immediately know the ages of the children or what part of New Jersey the family is from. Ballocanag is a nurse at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan.

"I'm trying to keep it together", Audie's brother Daniel Trinidad tells the New York Post.

Kern says he didn't realize in the moment but witnesses told him his auto had spun multiple times before coming to a rest on the median.

The only survivor from their auto was the girls' mother, Mary Rose Ballocanag who was asleep at the time and woke up to find her unresponsive husband on her after the impact.

"They didn't get to grow up and experience life as an adult". "But I'm a paramedic as well and I'm the only first responder there". My brother texted me a picture of the blue crabs they ate on 4th of July. "They go to church".

Friends and family are now raising money for the Trinidad family through a GoFundMe page found here. It has raised more than $160,000.
