Microsoft's 'cheap' Surface might make its official debut this week

The new Surface Go is a 10-inch Windows tablet that looks like the Surface Pro, but with prices starting at $399 (roughly Rs. 27,400). Considering the physical form of the Surface Go first, it is headlined as being the smallest and lightest Surface yet. There's a USB-C port, so you can use your Android phone's charger to power the PC, though by default it charges using Microsoft's proprietary Surface connector.

"Surface Go offers a stunning, custom-built high-resolution PixelSense Display that supports Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax, low latency, and precision for accurate note taking, drawing and computer-aided", says Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer, Microsoft.

You get two different storage options on the Microsoft tablet: a 64GB eMMC base model and a 128GB SSD version, while on the iPad you get to pick between a 32GB base version and a 128GB one. Here is the list of countries where the Surface Go will be available on pre-orders Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K and U.S. The device will be also coming to other markets in the near future. The tablet features a 10-inch display and weighs in at just 1.2 pounds (0.54KG).

Preorders have started immediately after the announcement, and the shipping is scheduled for August.

You can choose 4 or 8GB lpddr3 RAM and SSD capacities of 64, 128 and 256GB. The improved keyboard features are available on the Surface Go Signature Type Cover.

An official document leaked by a Reddit user indicates that the device might possibly be launched this week, along with a new Type Cover. Yeah, it should work well on a table or desk, but this is a portable machine - you don't always have a flat surface when on the go. You could also step up to the more premium Alcantara version for $129 - that's the same cloth-like material used on the Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro's keyboards.

The Surface Go may start at $399, but you can easily spend hundreds more if you add crucial functionality like a keyboard, more RAM, and extra storage. A new Surface Mobile Mouse is on the way too, but I don't have pricing for that at the time of writing.

Surface Go will run versions of Windows 10 and Office apps.

Microsoft has launched the Surface Go.

To make the Surface Go a full laptop-replacement, one will also need to invest in a Type Cover.
