LeBron James Officially Signs With The Lakers

Rob Pelinka hailed the signing of LeBron James as a "historic moment" for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Magic Johnson, the Lakers' president of basketball operations, said in a release, via ESPN, that he's confident James can help the Lakers reach the NBA Finals once more. "He loves to compete and is an awesome leader who is about winning and making sure that his teammates are successful", said the former Lakers great, who was instrumental in landing James. The Lakers are excited to have a team-mate who has gone nine times to the NBA Finals. "It's a huge step closer to returning the Lakers to the playoffs and to the NBA Finals".

The 33-year-old budding entertainment mogul immediately becomes the focus of the Lakers franchise and a possible foundation for the NBA's next superteam, depending on whether James and the Lakers can persuade more superstars to join him in the next year or two.

After all, Lowe was pumped about LeBron's move to the Lakers.

And we, happily, all know how that turned out. "We will continue forward to achieve our shared obsession of bringing banner No. 17 to the world's best fans - Lakers Nation".

This marks the first time James will play for a team in the hotly contested Western Conference, which includes heavyweight teams such as the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets.

Shortly after agreeing to terms with James last week, the Lakers agreed to deals with free agents Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee, and also agreed to bring Kentavious Caldwell-Pope back.

And the Lakers' pursuit of a trade for Kawhi Leonard looks to have hit a brick wall as negotiations with the Spurs reached a sticking point over the asking price, believed to be a blockbuster package of future picks and promising young players. The Lakers have won 11 championships while based in Los Angeles since 1960-61, adding to the five they won when they called Minneapolis home.
