Gianluigi Buffon ‘confirmed as Paris St Germain player on Monday’

Gianluigi Buffon reveals ex-Juventus teammate Blaise Matuidi advised him to join Paris Saint-Germain and is excited to play alongside the "incredible" Neymar.

The veteran goalkeeper confirmed he sought counsel from former Juventus team-mate Blaise Matuidi before opting to join the France global at PSG, where he will play under new coach Thomas Tuchel.

"He advised me to come here, saying 'Gigi they need a player like you in Paris and you'll feel very good in their dressing room.' It's something I listened to".

Speaking in Italian after a brief introduction in French, the 40-year-old said that his arrival on a free transfer is not only geared towards continental glory.

Buffon agreed a one-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions, ending a 17-year stay in Italy with Juventus.

Buffon is now 40 years of age but shows no signs of slowing down, signing a one-year contract upon his lucrative move to the French capital. But the team needs time, we always need time to improve. I was surprised to see that they couldn't reach their objective.

"Paris have great ambitions and there is a constant progression".

"I've come to an ambitious club, where everyone wants to win. A champion like Neymar will know to channel the disappointment to return with more will than ever".

"As in all experiences, I think it takes time and PSG overlooks a stage so important for a few years".

"Nobody promised me the number one shirt". "When I am no longer able to be at that level, I will stop". "I'm sure he'd make himself available to help the goalkeepers coming through, but he's made this choice and he'll respect it".
