George Clooney Released From Hospital After Scooter Accident in Italy

American actor and director George Clooney was injured in a scooter accident on the Italian island of Sardinia where he is working on a miniseries, Italian media reported on Tuesday.

Fans were quick to express their relief that the dad-of-two was doing well after the accident, with one tweeting: "I saw George Clooney trending and nearly had a heart attack".

Clooney was taken by ambulance to the John Paul II hospital emergency room, but his injuries were not serious, NBC News reported.

The US actor, 57, was said to be riding his motorbike at Costa Corallina, Puntaldia, when he collided with a Mercedes auto on Tuesday morning, according to TGR Rai Sardegna.

"A auto did not respect the right of way and hit him", the tweet read.

OK! Online has contacted a representative of George for comment.

Italian media report the accident happened in Sardinia where the U.S. actor is filming his latest TV series, Catch-22.

Clooney and his wife Amal are staying in Sardinia for the summer as George films his new TV series Catch 22, which stars Irish comedian David McSavage.

Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea and is over 500 miles from Clooney's villa in Lake Como.

It was announced in April that the multi-talented star was reducing his role in the Hulu production so he could concentrate on his directing and producing credits.

While George originally took on the role of Colnel Cathcart, he has now instead chosen to take up the smaller role of Scheisskopf instead, giving actor Kyle Chandler his original part.
