Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus set to sign Real Madrid forward

The signing of the latest Ballon d'Or victor and top scorer in the UCL for the last six seasons represents a major coup for Juventus, which has had a stranglehold on the Italian title since 2012 but has not won Europe's top prize since 1996.

"He also became Real Madrid's all-time record goalscorer, with 451 goals in 438 games".

Ronaldo leaves Madrid after winning 15 titles in nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"But I think the time has come to start a new phase in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept my transfer".

Cristiano Ronaldo would be welcome at Juventus and Emre Can would relish the chance to play alongside the Real Madrid star. I can only thank them all for the love and affection I have received.

The transfer fee was not disclosed but Spanish media said Ronaldo had signed a four-year deal and had cost Juventus 105 million euros (US$123.24 million).

"Beyond the conquered titles, the trophies achieved and the triumphs achieved in the playing fields during these nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication, work, responsibility, talent and improvement".

The five-time Ballon d'Or victor has been Real for nine seasons after joining from Manchester United for a then world-record fee of £80m.

But in 2016 Ronaldo managed what Messi could not - winning a major worldwide title for his country - when he led Portugal to victory in the European Championships.

He most recently lead Portugal to the Round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup, where they were beaten by Uruguay.

Despite his impending departure, the Portugal worldwide admitted he would never forget his time in Spain.

"Real Madrid CF communicates that, in response to the will and request expressed by the player Cristiano Ronaldo, he has agreed to transfer to Juventus FC". "I came here to win titles", the 24-year-old told reporters.

He finally got the global monkey off his back with the 2016 Euros win after a lifetime of near misses and flattering to deceive on the world stage. Real Madrid confirmed the news in a short statement on their website earlier today.

He added that the loss of Zinedine Zidane, who has been replaced by Julen Lopetegui at Real, doesn't change the club's appeal. "You should never spit on the plate that fed you, so Juve will always be in my heart".
