Liverpool new boy Fabinho denies he was ever close joining Man United

Liverpool new boy Fabinho has revealed that Manchester United were interested in signing him but admits a move to Old Trafford was never close.

The Brazilian midfielder is getting used to life at the Merseyside club after having signed for the Reds from Monaco earlier in the summer transfer window.

"I've been following the club closely in the last few years and they've improved greatly under Jurgen Klopp", said Fabinho in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine.

"He told me the calendar is demanding in England and that he needs players like me".

"I heard things said about it, but the truth is it was never a strong possibility".

He added: 'As soon as Liverpool declared their interest in signing me, it was a simple decision to make. "When I was doing the medical exams I couldn't I couldn't stop asking people 'When does it finally become official?' You don't sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world every day you know!" "It will be an honour to wear the famous red shirt".

"I am happy to be back", the Belgian striker, 23, told Liverpool's website.

"It was a learning season for me [with Wolfsburg]".

"It was a bit of a change of scenario; I learned a lot mentally and grew a lot". I tried to keep fit during the offseason and now I am very excited for the new season. It's going to be fun to watch them play in the next few weeks.

"To see them do so well in the Champions League, it wasn't to be at the end, but to get that far shows what a great bunch of lads we've got here".
