Miles Teller to Play Goose’s Son in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Miles Teller and Tom Cruise (as Maverick in "Top Gun").

Teller confirmed the news on Twitter, paraphrasing the film's famous line, "I feel the need, the need for speed".

Last week we learned that three actors were up for the role of Goose's son in Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick: Miles Teller, Nicolas Hoult and Glen Powell.

The "Whiplash" star has landed the coveted role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell's new protege and son of his late partner Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards in the first installment. The plot is rumored to revolve around fifth-generation aerial fighters in the world of drone technology at the tail end of the dogfighting era.

Tom Cruise finally found someone to take the highway to the danger zone with him. Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise will produce the film, and Harold Faltermeyer, the composer who created Top Gun's memorable theme music, is also returning to the production. Val Kilmer will also reprise his role from the 1986 film, despite health issues that led to the actor being heavily dubbed for The Snowman. Two for symmetry. Okay, the posters are staying, ' Glen tweeted along with a link to the article.

He now can be seen in the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up also starring Zoey Deutch, Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu that was released last month.

The only key roles for Teller have been in War Dogs, Bleed for This, Only the Brave, Thank You for Your Service and That Awkward Moment.

Paramount Pictures has set the Top Gun sequel release date for July 12, 2019.
