Chadwick Boseman Gives MTV Movie Award To Waffle House Hero

"Receiving an award for playing a superhero is unbelievable", Boseman told the audience.

Chadwick Boseman just handed over his award for Best Hero to real-life hero James Shaw Jr.

After Shaw stood up, surprised by the attention, Boseman explained to the audience who Shaw was, and invited him onto the stage and presented him with the MTV Movie & TV Award trophy, telling him, "This is going to live at your house".

Shaw is responsible for stopping the gunman in a deadly shooting at a Waffle House in Tennessee in April that killed four people.

"Receiving an award for playing a superhero is unbelievable", Boseman said.

He told Shaw: "You saved lives". Shaw leapt into action and wrested the weapon from the man, preventing any additional casualties.

On the television side of things, Netflix hit Stranger Things claimed the award for best show, actor Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) won for best show performance, and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) won for best frightened performance.

The young stars of It also won for best onscreen team, beating out the casts of Black Panther and Stranger Things, among others.

MTV Movie & TV Awards host Tiffany Haddish won best comedic performance for her breakout role in the raunchy 2017 movie Girls Trip.

Her mention of Instagram came with a wink, because just last week Brown deleted her Twitter account after a somewhat mysterious flood of homophobic memes falsely attributed hateful comments about the LGBTQ community to her.

Actor Chris Pratt won the Generation award, a sort of lifetime achievement award.
