Manchester United's Fred suffers injury scare ahead of World Cup

Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has revealed they can not make a thorough assessment until the swelling subsides.

The Manchester United man's injury was described by the Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lamas as a "trauma in his ankle".

On Tuesday, Manchester United announced their first arrival of the summer transfer window in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. The severity and extent of the injury will not be known until after a scan is performed tomorrow.

There was better news for Brazil, however, as star forward Neymar was added to coach Tite's main formation on Thursday.

Fred has made eight appearances for Brazil and made head coach Tite's final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation. Prior to their departure for Russian Federation, they will also play a friendly with Austria in Vienna.

Manchester United-bound Fred has been injured while training with Brazil ahead of their World Cup warm-up game against Austria on Sunday.

Midfielder Fernandinho, who started against Croatia last Sunday, was left out to open space for Neymar.

"This is the World Cup, everyone is training hard and working hard", said Marcelo.

Brazil - led by head coach Tite - will face Switzerland (June 17), Costa Rica (June 22) and Serbia (June 27) in Group E at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Brazil's two-week training camp in London ends on Friday, when the team travels to Austria for the friendly.
