Porsche Taycan Is New Name for Mission E

Porsche announced the name for its first purely electric series as part of the "70 years of sports cars" ceremony.

Porsche has also confired it plans to introduce a range of fully electric performance cars and SUVs alongside its conventional models, as well offering some of its sports cars with EV powertrains, including the next generation 911.

Two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) with a system output of over 440kW accelerate the electric sports auto to 100km/h in well under 3.5 seconds and to 200km/h in under twelve seconds. Macan is taken from the Indonesian word for tiger, while Cayenne denotes fieriness.

Nods to Porsche history include a centre fuel filler, "Talbot" mirrors, "taped" headlights, silver white paint job and low fly line, influenced by the original 356 1500 Speedster which started the Speedster lineage. Expect the Tesla-fighting Porsche Taycan to launch in 2019, followed by a Cross Turismo variant not long afterward.

The central location of the batteries and twin-motor set-up will also give the car's technical architecture a better front-rear weight balance than combustion-engined cars, potentially allowing Porsche's engineers to soften the car's anti-roll bars to aid ride without hindering handling.

Established in 1984, Porsche Cars North America, Inc.

The Porsche 911 Speedster Concept is supposed to be just a concept, but it nearly certainly previews a limited production run as a swansong for the current 991 911. That 53-acre complex features a driver development track with eight educational modules totaling 4.1 miles, a business center, and Restaurant 917.

Porsche's new vehicle will be produced at the brand's Zuffenhausen factory. PCNA is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.
