John Schneider Checks Into Jail to Serve Three-Day Sentence

Fox News reports that Schneider was unable to pay spousal support because his income isn't sufficient to make the payments.

Former "Dukes of Hazzard" and "Smallville" star John Schneider is facing some jail time over unpaid spousal support.

Luckily for the 57-year-old actor, who is now known for his role in Smallville, he was released from jail on Tuesday (June 12) after just serving five hours of his sentence due to overcrowding.

He claimed that he couldn't afford the payments after losing the majority of his money when his Louisiana movie studio was destroyed by floods in March 2016.

He will also have to complete 240 hours of community service.

Schneider failed to meet the mid-March deadline set by a judge to pay his estranged wife Elly Castle, who is also known as Elvira Schneider. At Schneider's February hearing, the judge reportedly ordered Schneider to transfer his Apple Valley property to Elvira and to resolve the property's tax liens.

Schneider was booked into jail in downtown Los Angeles at 10:29 AM on Tuesday.

As The Blast first reported, Schneider was found guilty of contempt earlier this year for failing to pay $185,000 in back spousal support.

Schneider at age 17 won the role of Bo Duke on The Dukes Of Hazzard and starred on the CBS show from 1979 to 1985 opposite Tom Wopat as his older cousin Luke Duke. They have three children together, two of which were Castle's children from a previous marriage.
