Arrest of gunman ends hostage seige in central Paris

The hostage-taker reportedly entered the building in Rue des Petites Ecuries, pretending to be a food-delivery courier, at around 4pm local time.

"The individual has been arrested and the hostages are out of danger", Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said on Twitter.

At least one other man was lightly injured while fighting with the hostage-taker and escaping before police arrived on the scene.

According to media reports, three people were taken hostage, including a pregnant woman.

Police also said the man was believed to have an accomplice outside the building where he was holding the hostage in a northern district of the French capital. Video on BFM-TV showed a demining device for bombs at the scene.

"I suspect the Prefecture of having removed it because it was right in front of the place".

"Officials will be trying to start a negotiation with the man", police union official Yves Lefebvre told BFMTV.

According to reports he had demanded to be put in contact with the Iranian ambassador in Paris and that he didn't want any police cars in the vicinity.
