Baez vs. Tseng in French Open boys' final

Nadal dealt with that ultimately minor inconvenience and claimed his record-extending 11th French Open championship Sunday by displaying his foe-rattling excellence in a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 7 seed Dominic Thiem.

Although he lost the first point of the fourth game, a flawless drop shot got Schwartzman to 15-all, and a backhand victor from followed by a drop shot gave Nadal a second break an 4-1 lead. But I know how to play against him.

For Del Potro it's just his second appearance at this stage in Paris and first for nine years.

Del Potro had required the doctor early in the first set after appearing to jar his ankle in the red clay.

Nadal said of his cramp: "I was very, very scared". In fact, Schwartzman became the first man in the tournament to win a set against the Spaniard. It also was a rematch of the U.S. Open final won by Stephens last September.

He appeared nearly overcome with emotion after reaching his first French Open semi-final since 2009, when he was beaten by eventual champion Roger Federer. "Without working hard and going through tough moments and still being focused on your passion for the game it is impossible to be here".

Top-ranked Simona Halep has rallied past Angelique Kerber 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2 to reach the French Open semifinals.

"It was a really close tiebreak and I didn't want that especially after I missed an easy volley at 6/4".

The No. 3-seeded Muguruza had lost all three previous meetings against Sharapova, who won two of her five Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros.

The first set had taken 57 minutes, in stiflingly humid conditions, but there was to be no let-up for the underdog in the second. "I made three surgeries in my left wrist and I was close to quit (ting) this sport", Del Potro said, according to the Ronald Garros website.

"Today I played more aggressive".

Top seed Nadal has an impressive record at the Roland Garros, winning 85 of his 87 matches played in the annual tournament so far.

Nadal will face Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals.

If Thiem is, as he is widely regarded, the second best clay-court player in the world then he probably has a few more of these pummellings to look forward to at least until Nadal, 32, finally calls it a day.

Rafael Nadal is trailing by a set and is down a break at 3-2 in the second against Diego Schwartzman at Court Philippe Chatrier.

The final battle between No. 7 seed Thiem and Nadal will take place on Sunday, June 10th.

"At the beginning yesterday there were no options to open the court, to win points", Nadal explained.

That was swatted away with Nadal's double-handed backhand, though, and the second set duly went the way of the favourite. Yesterday I was not able to do so.

Schwartzman had a point to lead 4-2 but a forehand error allowed Nadal off the hook.

But Thiem showed resilience in getting two break points on Nadal's serve.
