Xi Jinping says Vladimir Putin is his ‘best friend’

"The U.S. president has repeatedly said that it's reasonable to hold such a meeting", Putin said on the sidelines of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The two leaders agreed that China and Russian Federation should adhere to the concept of everlasting friendship and the spirit of strategic coordination, and expand and deepen cooperation in all areas.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China - plus Germany signed the nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

Xi emphasized that the USA seeks to change the worldwide order through unilateral approaches and violation of regulations.

"Both countries really use their relationship to showcase [that] there is an alternative to the American hegemony, and they've been doing that for a while even before Trump", she said.

The Russian leader said a meeting could take place as soon as the White House was ready and that many European countries had offered their help in making it happen.

Several European countries as well as China and Russian Federation have been trying to save the deal. Putin stated that the penultimate goal in terms of economic relations between the two countries is integrating and harmonising the One Belt-One Road initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union in order to create and expand a dynamic free trading zone throughout the wider east Asian and Eurasian space whose potential can unleash productivity throughout the region.

"But I believe it's a technical issue", he said.

The location of the Sunday summit, Qingdao, China, is approximately 400 miles southeast of Beijing.

Putin, who has previously told Europe he had warned them about the trade threat Washington posed to them, also said that if Trump imposed new tariffs on imports of foreign cars it would have serious consequences for the global economy and especially for Europe.

Xi later called Putin "my best, most intimate friend", which is not an endearment any western leader is likely to give Russia's autocratic leader.

Mamnoon said "Border cooperation between the two countries has been enhanced in recent years, and this trend must persist".

The six remaining nations, he said, "represent values" and a "true worldwide market force".

The two heads of state also exchanged views on issues of common concern including the situation on the Korean Peninsula and Iran nuclear issue.

Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended the talks.

President Vladimir Putin flew into Beijing where he was welcomed by Chinese Premier Xi Jingping.

"I am sure that if such level of development in this area is maintained, our bilateral trade could reach $100 billion this year", Putin suggested.
