G7 row: Emmanuel Macron attacks Donald Trump's 'fits of anger'

Trump advisers described Trudeau's statements as a slight that threatened to make the us look weak right as the president was leaving for a summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

What caused the rift?

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un converged on this island city state Sunday ahead of one of the most unusual and highly anticipated summits in recent world history, a sit-down Tuesday morning meant to settle a stand-off over Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal.

"The prime minister said nothing he hasn't said before-both in public, and in private conversations with the president", Trudeau's office announced in a statement, according to Reuters. But U.S. President Donald Trump's abrupt rejection of the joint communique and angry tweets left the annual meeting in disarray. "As Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but also we will not be pushed around", he said.

France pledged on Sunday to stand by the G7 summit statement disowned by Donald Trump and took a swipe at the USA president by declaring that worldwide cooperation could not depend on "fits of anger" or "little words".

"I would rather see Russian Federation in the G8 as opposed to the G7", Trump said at a press conference on the sidelines of a G7 summit in Charlevoix, Canada.

U.S. President Donald Trump shakes hands with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a bilateral meeting at the G7 Summit in in Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, June 8, 2018.

The president did not specify which exact remarks he considered to be false.

"In the name of the Western allies, he ought to come out today and wish President Trump well in the negotiations, instead of taking potshots at us", Kudlow said. He made first-name references to "Angela" and "Justin, ' and he repeatedly insisted he blamed previous US leaders, not foreign ones, for what he sees as the global trade imbalance".

Based on that account, Trudeau wasn't the only G-7 leader who toned down the rhetoric in direct talks.

Trump arrived late to the G-7, after letting it be known he had no desire to show up at all. "After many decades, fair and reciprocal Trade will happen!"

Adding to the United States trade deficit is "the fact that the USA pays close to the entire cost of NATO-protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on Trade (they pay only a fraction of the cost-and laugh!)".

According to a Canada release, they make nearly 100 Billion Dollars in Trade with USA (guess they were bragging and got caught!). Canada does indeed impose a 270% tariff on dairy that has kept many US dairy products from making their way from the U.S.to Canada. "Then Justin acts hurt when called out!" "He didn't attack [President Trump] in any way, other than restate Canada would retaliate for tariffs".

Protective measures like Canada's dairy tariff are common around the world. The president, en route to Singapore, lashed out at the Canadian leader via Twitter, stating that the USA will not endorse the communique.

On Saturday, Trump reiterated his belief that the U.S.is being taken advantage of by its trading partners and vowed to put a stop to it. "I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!" he wrote. "He is no friend of the United States, he's dismembering democracies everywhere and trying to do so in our own backyard".
