Generation Zero is Avalanche Studios Next Big Open World Game

The Swedish studio is co-developing the recently-announced Rage 2 with Id Software, and now they've unveiled their own ambitious original IP, Generation Zero. Sounds like a promising combination! You can check out the first trailer for Generation Zero below.

"Experience an explosive game of cat and mouse set in a vast open world", says the official blurb.

1-4 Player Seamless Multiplayer. A tweet from Avalanche Studio founder Christian Sundberg stated that the game would be revealed today, and heavily implies we'll see more at E3 next week.

Get Ready. Then Fight Back. All enemies are persistently simulated in the world, and roam the landscape with intent and objective. Dropping players into a science fiction twist on 1989 Sweden, you can either go it alone or team up in four player co-op to take on a robotic invasion force. By tactically combining weapons, skills and equipment, you'll be able to lure, cripple, and destroy your enemies. If a specific area of a machine is damaged, the damage will be permanent, meaning if you happen to save the rest of your fight for another day, you can encounter the same machine with lasting battle scars at a later date. Do anything in your power to level the playing field; scavenge for weapons and equipment, set traps and use the environment to your advantage in intense sandbox combat.

Talking about Generation Zero in the PCGN office has quickly brought us to the description "open world Left for Dead with robots", and I think that's not far from what we'll end up with. "Generation Zero", now set for release in 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, takes place in a reimagining of 1980s Sweden, except for the murderous mechs - that's new.
