One restaurant owner recalls how Anthony Bourdain changed his family's life

Bourdain did, too. He teamed up with The Food Network in an attempt to kill two financial birds with one stone - that someone would pay for him to travel the world to do research for a new book, and film the process at the same time.

Chef Anthony Bourdain, who taught us to love food and travel is dead by apparent suicide at the age of 61.

Sadly, the famous chef passed away on Friday (June 8) in a hotel room in France, where he was shooting for his show's latest episode. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. "I think few people fully understood what he's shows in Palestine, Iran etc did for the people of this region by showing the world the human side of these handsome cultures". "Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time", the statement read further.

Chef Kelly added in an email to Westchester Magazine, "Anthony Bourdain was a huge personality. One of the great storytellers who connected w so many", Ripert wrote. "My love and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones". I pray he is at peace from the bottom of my heart.

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain", the network - which aired his Parts Unknown series - said in a statement to ET.

Bourdain, a four-time Emmy Award victor, is survived by his 11-year-old daughter.

Prior to that, in 2014, during a chat with CNN's Anderson Cooper on his new season of Parts Unknown, Bourdain highlighted what makes Indian food so special for him.

Bourdain has famously visited Trinidad and Tobago previous year for an episode of Parts Unknown, which aired that June.
