England recall pacer Jake Ball for Australia ODI series

When Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for one year for ball-tampering, England's players must have sensed they could go one better in this summer's ODI series against Australia, having beaten them 4-1 last winter.

Woakes' fitness for the subsequent five-match series against Australia will be assessed this week, England confirmed in a post on Twitter.

Both players had been at the IPL before England's Test series against Pakistan, although Woakes did not play as much for Royal Challengers Bangalore as Stokes did for Rajasthan Royals.

Jake Ball will like to cash in on the opportunity.

It read: "Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball has been drafted into England's ODI squad for the Royal London series against Australia as cover for all-rounder Chris Woakes".

England team celebrate a wicket.

The lone ODI against Scotland will be held on June 10 in Edinburgh, while the ODI series against Australia begins three days later at The Oval.

Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler have been rested ahead of the ODIs, while England are yet to make a decision on the county availability of James Anderson and Stuart Broad ahead of the start of the Test series against India in August.

England's managementare also hopeful that the Durham all-rounder will be available for some of the Australian series but the loss of Woakes and Stokes will not easily be compensated for.
