South Africa remain unchanged at number 72 in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday‚ but will have the opportunity in the coming weeks to climb the table.

Only Benin and Botswana - who leaped six places each - made a better upward shift than Kenya during the month that had few global matches resulting in the little movement.

Most of the top 50 is unchanged, with Germany, Brazil and Belgium at one through three in the same top 10 as last month.

The Eagles are also unmoved in the same sixth position they were in last month's rankings.

It's a far cry from the glory days when Bafana cracked the top 20 in the rankings (at 19th) after winning the 1996 African Cup of Nations.

With a total of 692 points, Morocco ranks fourth in the African continent, with Tunisia ranking first and 14th worldwide and Senegal second, clinching the 28th position, while the Democratic Republic of Congo was placed third in the African continent and 38th in the world.

The next Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings will be published on June 7, 2018.

The Philippines (111, up 2) attained their best ever position in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking due to the Azkals' positive results in recent months - which included qualifying for their maiden AFC Asian Cup.

Argentina, favourites in Group D, are 5th in the World, while Croatia and Iceland are 18th and 22nd respectively.
