Man Detained After Attempting To Rip Door Off Plane At Melbourne Airport

A passenger who missed his flight has broken through barriers and stormed a Jetstar plane at Melbourne Airport, before being restrained by ground staff.

According to Channel 9 the man made several attempts to enter the plane, "before he begins to bash it with his feet".

"We reward our crew for safely dealing with this incident and restraining the passenger till police arrived", Jetstar mentioned in a press release.

The flight was delayed at the least an hour as engineers look at the plane.

"We were sitting waiting to get on the flight and people went 'Oh my god, what is going on?'" Murray said. "He was trying to get up the stairs, he was physically fighting with the staff, punching and scratching them", she said. It's understood only airline staff were aboard when the man climbed the stairs. "He then somehow managed to free himself and reached the door of the plane". "The federal police confirmed up 5 minutes later and walked him out".

"A man was arrested as a result and is now assisting police with inquiries", she said.

The man was later banned from any future Jetstar or Qantas flights and is set to face charges.

Australian Federal Police then showed up and escorted the man back through the gate.

The man broke through security inside the Jetstar terminal about 9.30am and ran towards the Airbus that had just offloaded passengers.

One of the baggage handlers was reportedly injured in the incident.

Police believe he then crawled into the baggage area and into a secure zone, before running on to the tarmac.
