Buhari'll win without nPDP - El-Rufai

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has said that the exit from the All Progressive Congress (APC) of members of the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) who have issued an ultimatum within which to be called for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over their grievances will not have any impact on Buhari's electoral fortunes in 2019.

Others include Senator Abdulaziz Nyako- Senator and chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties, Senator Uchendu- Senator and vice chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal- Governor Sokoto State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje- Governor, Kano State, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed - Governor, Kwara State, Senator Jibrilla Bindow- Governor, Adamawa State, Senator A Bagudu- Governor, Kebbi State, Alh Kawu Baraje- Board chairman.

A new faction led by former Nasarawa state governor, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, however, faulted the claim of marginalization of the NPDP at a press briefing on Monday.

He said: "Aside from giving two powerful ambassadorial slots to Kwara, a substantive Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is also from the state and he is making us proud at the national level".

"In the letter, Baraje stated that we members of the then nPDP group are being marginalized, maltreated and witch-hunted in the APC and requested an urgent meeting with the party and Mr President within one week". But as it stands, we've not got any response yet from them. "And, these machines can be used for three or four more elections because they can last for 10 years, all we need is to upgrade the software to add more parties and so on". But at the appropriate time, we are going to respond to Nigerians based on what we have said.

"I will tell you we are meeting with our leaders and we are going to come up with a clear position on our next step if finally they don't attend to us".

"You can see and everybody knows that it was because of our participation in the APC that practically brought the victory we are all enjoying today". Today, everyone person that is being harassed within the APC, go and check your timetable, they are those of us who came from the new PDP within the APC that are still being harassed. Even when (Ibrahim) Shekarau was running as a presidential candidate in 2011, Buhari defeated him in Kano.

The group said in sharing of the spoil after helping Buhari to win the election in 2015, the APC has turned back on them. The Senator and Jibrin said yesterday that we benefited in by getting the Senate President from the new PDP, the speaker, some senators, governors and so on. For God's sake, these are elected positions. We believe we are going to do everything possible to rescue Nigeria the same way we rescued Nigeria from the PDP. He was neither supported by the executive arm of government. The way we rescued Nigeria from PDP.

"And also the support of senators and members of the House that believed, have confidence in the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon".

"But once more, I want to make it very clear that we are not here to respond to individuals, we are here to make it known that our proposal, our letter is to the party, so, it is left for the party to either take it seriously or not". So far so good, we are very happy with them, they've done very well despite challenges and the circumstances and hurdles they passed and they are still passing through till today. They ignored us and that was how we left.

"We appreciate the president's efforts in re-positioning the economy of the country, as well as his anti-corruption campaign which has positioned him as a leader who has the interest of the masses at heart".

"These people were elected in their various states, they were elected by their people to represent them in the Senate and in the house of representatives". Adamu and his group have compromised, saying they were never part of the nPDP. So, this is not true.

He insisted that there was no faction within the group.

"We as initiators and founding members of the defunct nPDP therefore wish to condemn and disassociate ourselves from the letter and apologise for the obvious embarrassment the letter have caused to our party and government". We have only one leader and he remains Alhaji Kawu Baraje, and I can tell you that clearly without fear or favour, and I want to make it known to all of you that Baraje is not alone in that letter.
