Back to School-Man Arrested,1st Ld-Writethru, TX

Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley, a 25-year-old man who graduated from North Mesquite High School in Texas, was recently arrested and booked into Dallas County Jail after police realized he had enrolled at Hillcrest High School in North Dallas as a 17-year-old.

He was arrested and charged with felony tampering with government documents for filing false enrollment records.

Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley told officials at Skyline High School that he was homeless, displaced by Hurricane Harvey before he enrolled for classes.

The district tells WFAA students who've been through a natural disaster or are homeless aren't asked for the same documentation that's typically required, per federal law. Because of that, he didn't have to show proof of any records.

Fully immersing himself in the high-school scene, Gilstrap-Portley went as far as to date a 14-year-old classmate. According to a write-up by the Preston Hollow People, "Rashun Richardson" scored 17 points in the team's first-round playoff loss.

His scheme was discovered when one of Gilstrap-Portley's former coaches, who witnessed him graduate from North Mesquite High School, saw him playing in an April tournament and alerted the Hillcrest staff.

DISD officials say Gilstrap-Portley gained access to schools at a time when the district had opened its doors to hurricane evacuees. "He was fairly savvy to be able to utilize that type of position, knowing that we were accepting Harvey students".

Portley was a star for Hillcrest's team for the 2017-18 season. After learning about this situation, we immediately notified district and local authorities and necessary actions have been taken.
