Arsenal hold talks with Ivorian star Seri

Chelsea are reportedly poised to pip Arsenal to the signing of OGC Nice star Jean-Michael Seri.

Jean Michael Seri was wanted by Arsenal's sporting director while at Barcelona last summer.

But, a move would subsequently fail to materialise as Nice kept hold of him.

Seri who is an Ivory Coast worldwide with 18 caps and 30 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, scoring twice joined Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015, after Seri having his youth career at ASEC Mimosas in his native country.

He has been a mainstay within the Good staff once more this time period, beginning 30 video games in Ligue 1 and chipping in with two targets, although his function is primarily as a defensive midfielder. Arsenal have reignited their interest in Seri heading into the transfer window this summer, with Chelsea emerging as the latest club in his pursuit.

Arsene Wenger called time on his 22-years at the club, and the Emirates hierarchy are looking at bringing in a head coach rather than a manager.

If either side are to land the midfielder this summer, though, they will need to cough up a considerable sum. Tiemoue Bakayoko has only just started showing some signs of the potential that would ideally make him a long term solution in midfield, but he is still some way off the required levels.

Seri could be the answer to our midfield struggles.

There stays an uncertainty over the managerial positions at each Chelsea and Arsenal which might play a component in any negotiations.

And a move for Seri is on the cards, but the Gunners face an uphill battle with the 26-year-old setting his sights elsewhere.
