That amount of space is almost two-thirds the size of the Pentagon and about half what Amazon is seeking for its second headquarters.

The new location of the new Apple HQ is supposed to be revealed by the end of 2018.

Earlier today, we reported that Apple was looking at a spot in North Carolina to expand its operations on the East Coast.

Citing various sources in the legal, real estate, and state government sectors, The Triangle Business Journal reported on Wednesday that the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill - an area referred to also as Triangle Research Park - are now at the top of Apple's short list of potential locations for its upcoming campus development. The proximity to Washington D.C. has made the area an attractive place for Silicon Valley's top companies. Apple already has several ties to North Carolina, including a data center in the state.

Other large companies with a presence in the Triangle Research Park area include Cisco systems, Qualcomm, IBM, Lenovo, Red Hat and Verizon, among others.

Citing officials and real estate executives familiar with the discussions, the report claims that Apple representatives are seeking 4 million square feet of office space in the area.
