Rapper TI arrested for public drunkenness and assault

The police department told WSB-TV that T.I., legally named Clifford Harris Jr., didn't have his key to enter, and a security guard reportedly refused to let him in.

According to officials, the unidentified friend had an outstanding warrant and was placed under arrest.

According to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, the rapper was detained around 6:00 a.m. and released on his own recognizance around 7:51 a.m.

Police told the outlet that he was arrested at the gated community where he lives after an altercation with a security guard.

T.I. was arrested early Wednesday for alleged disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

T.I. attends the Roc Nation pre-Grammy brunch in NY on January 27.

Rapper T.I. was arrested earlier Wednesday morning in Stock Bridge, Georgia, outside of his residence's gated community.

"To see young people involved with something so important right now - that gives a sense of hope", T.I. said.

T.I. claims the whole thing started because he was returning home from the studio and noticed the security guard allegedly asleep in the guard shack.

In an interview with The Blast that took place shortly after he was released, T.I. says that the arrest was the result of "white cops in a very white area". It took Tip some time to wake up the sleeping guard, Tip clearly identified himself and sought entry. He says the guard continued to refuse entry "without justification" before words were exchanged and police were called. "When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip".

He also spent about 10 months in federal prison on a probation violation in 2010 after he was arrested on drug charges in Los Angeles.

T.I.is one of the biggest names in hip-hop, with multiple platinum-selling albums and singles, production credits and roles in films like "ATL" and "American Gangster".
