Pochettino Tottenham future unclear ahead of talks with club

The Colombian only joined Spurs last summer, for a club-record £42 million, but has formed a good partnership with Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the club's defence.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Tuesday that defender Davinson Sanchez has agreed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2024.

Not only is there the obvious rivalry between the clubs, but Chelsea haven't even qualified for next season's Champions League, while Tottenham have booked their place in Europe's top competition for the third straight season.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have qualified for the Champions League for three seasons in a row while operating on a smaller budget than rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Pochettino recently caused concern among Spurs fans when he suggested he needed chairman Daniel Levy to buy into his ideas with talks planned.

"I think Daniel is going to listen to me, but you know sometimes I might have some insane ideas".

The decision to offload the quintet was taken before Pochettino's controversial comments after Sunday's epic 5-4 season-ending win over Leicester. I think it's a moment for the club to take risks and try to be competitive.

Tottenham fans were understandably delighted to see Sanchez commit his future to the club, but they also called for more deals, including a move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, who played alongside Sanchez in Amsterdam.

"First of all I need to speak with Daniel, then we will know what we are going to do".

"If we want to be real contenders for big, big trophies, we need to review a little", Pochettino said, according to the BBC.

The former Southampton manager again refused to give any guarantees he would be Tottenham boss for the start of next season.

"Today 100 percent I feel I am here, but it is important to think that tomorrow all can change, because it's not in my hands".
