No. 16 Texas leads the event by eight strokes at 24-under-par.

The recent UTEP graduate and lone Miner representative shot three birdies on the front nine, including consecutive birdies on holes No. 5 and No. 6, and only bogeyed once in his opening day run. CSS will resume play at 7 a.m. today with a shotgun start for the second round at 10 a.m.

Freshman Alex Shead shot his second straight even-par 71 for the Jaguars and is tied for 33rd (E), while sophomore Gustav Andersson and freshmen Laken Hinton and Olof Gunnarsson picked up a few strokes in round two.

ISU has two golfers in the top ten, led by Denzel Ieremia, who has carded back-to-back 68s, and is third. He was one of seven players in the field of 76 to shoot under par.

William Holcomb paced the Kats with a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 28th overall after 18 holes of the 54-hole competition. The Longhorn All-American has a tournament total of 130 (-12), while Shipp finished 36 holes at 131 (-11). Augusta's Broc Everett, after carding a 66 Tuesday, is alone in third place at 133 (-9).

"I think we just got off to a very slow start with some tough conditions", MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said. "We've been putting it together with 2-under, 3-under rounds, but obviously those numbers are out there". After completion of the second round, the field will be cut to the top-18 teams and six low individuals not from the advancing schools.

The other five regional tournaments are being conducted in Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club; Texas A&M, top seed); Columbus, Ohio (Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course; Oklahoma State, top seed); Kissimmee, Fla.
