Deadpool 2 Projected To Open Around $305-$350 Million This Weekend Worldwide

Prior to the film's Chinese release, it was uncertain whether "Infinity War" would have the legs to reach $2 billion, especially considering that its box office performance will start tailing off significantly as "Deadpool 2" arrives in theaters this weekend followed by "Solo: A Star Wars Story" the weekend after. Overseas the film opened to $149.9 million over the course of several months, finally ending up with $420 million, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film both overseas and worldwide with $783.1 million.

Deadline reports that Deadpool 2 is set to make $305-$350 million worldwide this weekend. Fox plans to release the film on over 4,300 screens, the widest release for any Fox release or any R-Rated film.

Deadpool 2 now has an 85% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, beating Deadpool's 83%.

Are you ready for Deadpool 2? This bodes well for Deadpool and his X-Force taking on Thanos and the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The David Leitch-directed film hits USA theaters this Friday.

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapcic as Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlisle, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al and Karan Soni as Dopinder. I gave the film a B+ in my review for LRM.

While analysts tell TheWrap a slightly higher opening in the mid-teens is possible, it's still lower than might be expected for a comedy featuring these four seasoned actresses. Compared to the first film, which was considered a wild success, Deadpool 2 is not falling short.

Paramount, which paid $10 million for the North America, U.K. and France distribution rights to this June Pictures production, will pin its hopes on solid returns in later weeks, as the older demographics that are this film's target audience tend to see movies later in their theatrical run.
