Alabama, Texas Announce Home-And-Home, Longhorns Move Ohio State Series

Alabama and Texas last met in the BCS National Championship Game on January 7, 2010.

APNewsNow.Texas and Alabama, which last met in 2010 Rose Bowl, will play each other in 2022 and 2023. Texas holds a 7-1-1 series advantage between the two college football powerhouses.

Texas will host the Crimson Tide on September 10, 2022, before traveling to Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023, for the return leg of their series. The traditional college football powers have only met three times on their home fields with the last coming in Austin in 1922.

To accommodate this series Texas and Ohio State have mutually agreed to push back the dates of their home-and-home series from 2022 and 2023 to 2025 and 2026. UT ranks second in all-time victories with 898 while Alabama ranks fifth with 891.

Texas tossed in an announced home game against UTEP in 2020 to this release. All matchups since the 1947 Sugar Bowl have come in postseason appearances.

The Longhorns have also canceled a potentially-notable game.

As a result of the Alabama-Texas series being scheduled, the Longhorns had to make several adjustments to their future schedules. In 2019, the Longhorns' three scheduled non-conference opponents are Louisiana Tech (Aug. 31), LSU (Sept. 7) and at Rice (Sept. 14).

UCF played at Texas during the 2009 season, falling 35-3.

There are still one open slot on each schedule ranging from 2021-24. Texas and USC are in the middle of a home-and-home, but Alabama last left Tuscaloosa for a series like this in 2011 when it played Penn State.
