A suspended Pennsylvania school teacher was gunned down while standing on her mother's driveway on Mother's Day, police said.

'I don't know why that happened.

DelTondo had just returned from getting ice cream on Sunday evening when she was shot dead.

According to Times Online, towards the end of past year, DelTondo was suspended with pay from her teaching job at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School after a police report alleging there had been an incident involving her and a former student came to light.

Reports say that the police report remained confidential until October, when the informant sent the email to DelTondo's school.

Police noted that the car's "windows were steamed over and the engine was not running". She added that her fiancé did not know where she was, and would only be "mad" if he found out.

It is speculated that DelTondo knew her assailant, but neither the district attorney nor local police are commenting on the investigation. Several neighbors said they heard up to 12 gunshots. Officers later drove the teen home. In fact, the police report wasn't public knowledge until the media and Pennsylvania Cyber officials received an anonymous email in October 2017 that included the 2016 Aliquippa police report, Times Online reported.

"The reason this report was not filed in February 2016 with the Aliquippa School District, Children and Youth Services and a mandated report to the Department of Education was because it was an attempted cover up", the second email reads.

Police reportedly found text messages and Snapchat messages suggesting DelTondo and the teen had a relationship. However, investigators have not revealed information about the case at this time.

WPXI reported a slightly different version of the story, saying that Channel 11 found out about DelTondo's name after the mother of the former Aliquippa High School student talked to them about the incident.

"We have an active group with the Pennsylvania State Police, the Beaver County Detective Bureau and the Aliquippa Police Department working very hard together", Lozier said.

Though she was suspended by Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, DelTondo was never charged.

"We were saddened to learn of the tragic death of Rachel DelTondo, apparently the result of a violent incident in the City of Aliquippa".

Reportedly, her name was sometimes misspelled as "Rachel" in certain media publications concerning the story. Her engagement was subsequently broken off due to the incident, reports KDKA. "We express our sympathy to her family and coworkers and will support them in any way possible in the weeks and months ahead as they mourn her passing".

DelTondo and her family also made headlines in February 2017 after a dustup with the bridal shop assisting in her wedding planning. The report concluded that "Deltondo was advised that there was better places to just talk with a former student", and further stated that the responding officer hoped not to find her in the same predicament again. It was handmade by a NY designer and required a non-refundable $4,000 deposit.

An investigation ensued, which led to DelTondo's suspension. After not appearing for a hearing, Cherico was ordered by a court to pay the DelTondos $4,600.
