House Of Reps Summons President Buhari Over Killings

In addition, members agreed to shut down legislative duties for three days in protest against the unending killings in the country by herdsmen.

The visibly anxious members during Wednesday's plenary also urged the President to declare the killer herders as terrorists so as to effectively wage an all out war against them.

The decision of the lawmakers followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Mark Gbilah (APC, Benue), who said the Federal government failed in its primary responsibility of welfare and security of lives and property to the people of his State.

"Let him come here and appear to brief us". We need to know.

The motion was unanimously adopted after it was put to a voice vote by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Edebir said: "we like to assure you that we align with the vision of Mr. President to build a new Nigeria that will not be plagued by corruption but provide a platform of hope for all Nigerians".

He was seconded by another APC member from Yobe State, Mr. Goni Bukar, before the prayer was passed by members.

On Tuesday morning, persons suspected to be herdsmen attacked and killed worshippers, including two priests in a Catholic Church in Benue State.

He condoled with the government and people of Mbalom Community in Gwer East Local Government Area where the incident occurred.

Terseer-Gbillah went on to disclose that just before he came for Wednesday's session, he got fresh reports that 22 more villagers had been killed.

"It will appear that war has been declared on Benue State".

Despite the deployment of security operatives to the region, the killings still continue.
