Shonda Rhimes on What's Left For Olivia Pope in 'Scandal' Finale

I remember getting to that last scene where she says, 'Sweet baby, ' and you realize that Olivia and the president had been together, and I threw my script across the room like, 'Are you kidding me?' So I was really in. "I have no way of describing the finale", said Rhimes, who makes it clear that this will be a different finale compared to a typical season finale of the Shondaland show.

This was the sort of series where high-powered PR wizard Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) could carry on a torrid, ongoing affair with the president of the United States, Tony Goldwyn's Thomas Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant III, driven mainly by the kind of overwhelming sexual chemistry that brought nations to ruin in ancient tragedies, and ultimately go public with it.

Actress Kerry Washington reunited with her Scandal co-stars on Thursday night (19Apr18) to celebrate the series finale with one last viewing party.

The first photo shows Washington in costume in a very Olivia asymmetrical white blazer and black pants doing rug angels on the Oval Office set's carpet. Scandal is no longer the most pioneering, or forward thinking show on television, or even that much of an anomaly. So, before saying goodbye, I stretched out on that gorgeous rug and tried to just take it all in.

"Soon after, a few beloved crew members joined".

The final episode of the ABC political fixer drama will feature a brand-new track by Stevie Wonder, which will play as the last song of the series. "I imagine it will take some time to really understand what just transpired in my life". But, this much, I know... Our glorious cast & crew and our community of #Gladiators. "Hopefully, we've created a world in which we've stopped seeing these characters on television and it's a magical anomaly that they're there and there's an otherness to them.Hopefully, we've made a dent in that". The series finale will be added to Hulu on Friday, April 20, so you will be able to watch the series finale with your Hulu subscription but not live. "And tweeting. And being with us!"

In an interview with Deadline this week, show creator Shonda Rhimes said the final episode is tough to articulate. "So many of @scandalabc's most iconic scenes happened in that Oval", Washington wrote in the caption. Speaking to People this week, Washington said that, like us, she's still mourning the end of the show.
