Indy 500 to be Paced by 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

For the 15th time since 1978, a Corvette will be the official pace vehicle for the Indianapolis 500.

This will be the 15th time a Corvette has been the Indy 500's pace vehicle and the 29th time a Chevy has had the honor. Of course, the new 'Vette is more than just an engine - it has the full complement of aero and suspension to make this a true track star.

It looks like Chevrolet's latest Corvette will set the pace for this year's Indianapolis 500. "This year's Pace Car, the 2019 Corvette ZR1, is an incredible fast machine that is a flawless fit to lead the 500 field to the green flag". "This year's Pace Car, the 2019 Corvette ZR1, is an incredible, fast machine that is a flawless fit to lead the "500" field to the green flag". "It's the ideal choice to pace 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing'". No mention of Pace Car Replicas was mentioned, but we're guessing a few special ZR1's might be heading to dealers.

This year, the Indy 500 takes place on Sunday, May 27, with coverage beginning at 11 am Eastern.

The ZR1 is the speediest Corvette ever. Arthur Chevrolet competed in the 1911 race, and Gaston Chevrolet won it in 1920.

Louis Chevrolet and his brothers came to America to race. "This year's Pace Car, the 2019 Corvette ZR1, is an incredible fast machine that is a ideal fit to lead the 500 field to the green flag". "Seeing all of the incredible Corvettes that have paced the Indianapolis 500 on the track today is an exciting reminder of the rich history of this great relationship".

The automaker is also proud to point out that one of its founders, Arthur Chevrolet, competed in the first 500-mile race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1911. The 102nd running will see the 15th Corvette.
