Hwy 401 eastbound closed in Mississauga for crash

Schmidt sayid that at least two transport trucks and a number of passenger vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at around 8:30 a.m.

Drivers will be forced off the 401, Schmidt added.

Part of the westbound 401 was closed as well to make way for an air ambulance, but has since been reopened.

The victim, said to be in his 50s, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. "Right now it does appear that his injuries are serious but, at this point, not life-threatening, which is very good news".

One eastbound lane of the 401 had reopened after the collision near Winston Churchill Boulevard.

Three people are in hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on Hwy.

"Two vehicles with pretty significant damage, two tractor trucks with pretty significant damage and a few other vehicles with minor damage", he said.

"It looks like traffic was probably slowing down and one of the vehicles hit the back of traffic and sheared off the trailer and then destroyed two vehicles", Schmidt said.

OPP and Ministry of Transportation officers have been called in to investigate both crashes.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the highway is covered in debris and it will take some time for crews to clear the road.
