School shooting pre-empts Florida high school's walkout against school shootings

According to the Ocala Star-Banner, one student shot another in the ankle. The boy told Oliver the shooter was standing in a hallway and shot at a closed classroom door.

Right now deputies have responded to a shooting at Forest High School. The person's identity was not released and investigators have not given details about a suspected motive.

Authorities asked residents to avoid the area of Forest High School, which was surrounded by emergency vehicles and buses transporting students away from the scene.

Parents were urged to go immediately to First Baptist Church of Ocala on Southeast Maricamp Road, where they will be reunited with their children. Other schools in the district were placed on alert as a precaution, the Sheriff's said.

Students at thousands of U.S. schools were due to walk out today in memory of the attack - as part of the National School Walkout against gun violence.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred at Forest High School in Ocala, Fla.

The shooting happened as students around the country prepared to walk out to protest gun violence on the anniversary of the massacre at Colorado's Columbine High School.
