Schalke 04 beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in one-sided Ruhr derby

Sport Bild initially reported that the Chelsea loanee left the Schalke Arena on crutches, and early signs suggest that the player may have fractured his ankle, but it now appears that the player has picked up damaged ligaments - which could keep him out for just as long.

Batshuayi is now on loan at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and was stretchered off in a 2-0 defeat to Schalke on Sunday.

Coach Domenico Tedesco celebrated with fans in the stands.

Schalke looked more likely to score in the first half, though Dortmund's Marco Reus went closest when he drew a good save from Ralf Faehrmann with a free kick.

Konoplyanka's effort proved a sighter as he hammered Schalke in front in the 50th minute.

The result leaves BVB trailing second-placed Schalke by four points in the standings, but coupled with Bayer Leverkusen's victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, the defeat means Dortmund are now fourth in the table on goal difference, with only a four-point cushion over RB Leipzig in fifth.

Reus blasted wide on the volley as Dortmund, beaten 6-0 at Bayern in its previous away game, desperately sought an equaliser, with Stoger turning to teenager Jadon Sancho in the closing stages.

And Naldo drove in from 25 yards after a short free-kick to secure the win.

The day got even worse for Dortmund in stoppage-time as Batshuayi left the field on a stretcher after seemingly damaging his ankle in a challenge from Benjamin Stambouli.
