Kathua case: JK CM accepts resignation of BJP ministers

Sources said that Madhav had on Saturday said that these two vacancies will be filled by new faces from within the party.

Moving ahead in a probe, CBI detains the woman who lured the victim to the accused in the name of job.

Amid rumours that the PDP may seriously discuss the withdrawal of the party from the coalition, Chief Minister and party president Mehbooba Mufti held a meeting with all PDP lawmakers and party leaders in Srinagar. He said though the ministers had not opposed a Crime Branch inquiry into the matter, there was some indiscretion on their part in handling the situation.

It's end of the road for the two senior BJP ministers as CM Mufti accepted their resignation on Sunday and forwarded it to Governor. While Chandra Prakash Ganga had termed the arrest of the men as "jungle raj", Lal Singh said, "Why such a hullabaloo on the death of this one girl. many such girls have died here".

Madhav said the two ministers stepped down because of the perception about them. "Yes, there was some indiscretion but they never tried to hamper the investigation".

"Yes, there has been indiscretion and it is for this that they made a decision to step down", news gatherer quotes him saying after the BJP legislature party meeting.

After the meeting, Works Minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Ahkar, who is also the government spokesperson, "appreciated" the BJP support in the handling of the case which had caused fissures in the alliance.

JAMMU: Lashing out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for failing, as in-charge home, in tracing the Kathua rape and murder victim, Choudhary Lal Singh has demanded her resignation. He said, "We appreciate our alliance partner which helped us in this case".

"The media was hitting at the party's image, and they resigned". I see that as a confidence-building measure.

"The disturbing feature of the case is that the law and order machinery and the government officials were directly in the league and under the influence of Kuldeep Singh", a bench of Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice Sunit Kumar had said on Friday. The girl's body wasn't found for seven days after her disappearance. "We are still trying to establish her identity", Surat police commissioner Satish Kumar Sharma told AFP. A police Sub-Inspector and a Head-Constable too have been arrested on charges of destroying evidence. Asked about it, Madhav said, "It is now for the court to decide". We want justice for her.

After a massive public outrage over the inaction of the UP police, the case was handed over to the CBI on April 12. BJP MLAs Rajiv Jasrotia from Kathua and Kuldeep Raj from Hiranagar were also present at the rally.

"Why Mr Gandhi has not removed Mr Mir before questioning the BJP", Mr Javadekar said. He wonders if the probe was aimed at making some political points. "We will react only after a decision is taken in this regard by the BJP".
