Gronk to miss beginning of Patriots off-season workouts

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, tight end Rob Gronkowski doesn't now plan to participate in the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program set to begin Monday. The development follows months of speculation regarding Gronkowski's desire to continue his career. The Patriots star has a $250,000 workout bonus that's based on attending a "percentage" of the voluntary workouts.

Gronk has still not committed to playing this season.

But they'll reportedly do so without their superstar tight end.

Rob Gronkowski's contract is back on the negotiating table. This would be a significant amount of money that he would be stepping away from in the prime of his career. He's posted at least 1,000 yards and 8 scores in three of the last four seasons.

It should be seen as a promising sign that both sides have picked up a steady level of communication throughout this entire process.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft recently downplayed the possibility of Gronkowski retiring, saying "i$3 t's not even an issue for me" and explaining that Gronkowski has been present at Gillette Stadium recently, apparently to work on rehabbing injuries.

With training camp set to begin next month, the Patriots should get their answer concerning Gronkowski at some point over the next few weeks.
