Reina also disclosed in the tweet that bacteria and human waste were found in the counterfeit makeup products. The products were tracked to the Fashion District, where officers did undercover buys.

Captain Marc Reina, Commanding Officer of LAPD's Central Division, tweeted details and photos from the raid, adding, "The best price is not always the best deal!"

At a press conference on Monday, authorities showcased what looked like high-end makeup but was really $700,000 worth of counterfeit cosmetics containing bacteria and feces confiscated from 21 locations in downtown's Fashion District.

The raid was a result of complaints from customers stating Kylie Cosmetics, Urban Decay, NARS, and even M.A.C. products were giving them breakouts and rashes. The products look nearly identical to high-quality eyeshadow, lipstick, and mascara but, authorities say, their prices should have raised eyebrows.

Detective Rick Ishitani told KABC companies must meet the expensive duty of meeting safety standards while makers of bootleg product don't. When their lab tested the contents, they discovered the products were full of shit - figuratively and literally. "They came back positive with a high level of bacterias and animal feces", Ishitani said.
